Actinomycosis is a rare type of bacterial infection caused by actinomyces bacteria. The four main types are oral cervicofacial, thoracic, abdominal and pelvic.
The symptoms of actinomycosis can vary depending on the type. Symptoms of oral cervicofacial actinomycosis include swollen lumps on the face or neck.
Actinomycosis is caused by a group of bacteria called actinomyces. Actinomyces are found in many of the body's cavities, such as inside the mouth.
